Fuel Sniper helps Australian drivers find the cheapest nearby fuel. This policy explains exactly what we do with your data. It is written to be read, not to be survived — and it is written to be accurate, including where that is less flattering than "we collect nothing".
Fuel Sniper ("we", "us") is the entity responsible for the personal information described here, and we handle it in line with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). Privacy requests reach the owner directly at the contact address below.
With your permission, the app reads your device location to show which service stations are near you. Location access is foreground only — the app does not request or receive your location in the background, and it does not track your movements between sessions.
Your coordinates are sent to our own server (a Cloudflare Worker) with each price lookup, so it can return the stations near you rather than every station in the state. Those requests are rounded to roughly one kilometre for caching, are not tied to any account, and we do not build a location history from them. The state fuel-price authorities themselves never receive your position: we collect their data on a schedule and answer your request from our own copy.
You can refuse or revoke location permission at any time. The app still works — you search for a suburb instead.
Written to your device's local storage and never uploaded to us: your saved vehicles and their badges, tank sizes and fuel types; your preferred and hidden brands; favourite stations; your alert preferences; your logged fill-ups and spend history; and app settings. Deleting the app deletes all of it. We hold no copy and cannot recover it for you.
Two optional features write a record to our server. Both are off until you switch them on.
If you turn on price alerts, we store a push notification token issued to your device by Expo's push service, the approximate coordinates you want watched, and the fuel grades you chose. We use it for one purpose: to send you a notification when a nearby price drops. A push token identifies a device, not a person, and we do not attach a name, email or account to it — but it is a persistent device identifier, so we treat it as personal information.
Turning alerts off in the app deletes the record — the app calls our unregister endpoint, and the entry is removed. Uninstalling the app also invalidates the token permanently.
If you choose to share a fill-up, we store the station, fuel grade, the price you paid, the time, your approximate coordinates, and a random identifier generated on your device. That identifier exists so that one device cannot file a thousand fake reports; it is not derived from your phone's hardware IDs, your advertising ID, or anything about you, and it is not linked to any other record we hold. Shared prices are displayed alongside the official price and never change the ranking of results.
Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, records standard request logs including IP address and timestamp for security, abuse prevention and rate limiting. We do not use them to profile users.

Each is an independent service with its own privacy policy. Once data reaches them it is governed by their terms, not ours.
Some of these providers process data outside Australia — Cloudflare serves from the nearest edge location, and Google, Expo, Open Charge Map and Wikimedia operate internationally. By using features that depend on them, you consent to that disclosure under Australian Privacy Principle 8.

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask us to delete it. Because there is no account, the practical key is your push token or device identifier — email us and we will explain how to supply it. Most of it you can remove yourself: turning alerts off deletes the alert record, and uninstalling the app removes everything held locally.
If you are unhappy with how we handle a privacy request, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Fuel Sniper is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Prices come from government-operated reporting schemes and are indicative only. They can be stale or wrong, and they change without notice. Victorian prices are published on a delay of about 24 hours by Service Victoria's own design. Always check the board at the bowser before you fill up.
If this policy changes materially, the date above changes and the new version is published here before the change takes effect in the app.
